Evrard Wendenbaum, a true 21st-century adventurer, has set himself the mission of saving little-known territories that are already endangered by mankind. With him, his team of scientists and ecovolunteers, we travel to the heart of Madagascar’s Makay, a majestic primary massif that must be preserved at all costs. Evrard paves the way for his team to access the most remote terrain in this south-western region of Madagascar.
Evrard’s and the scientists’ committed journey is punctuated by a few respites that provide food for thought: biological, social, environmental and economic issues in view of a biosphere reserve classification.

Synopsis:
North of the Arctic Circle, on the east coast of Greenland, an unexplored region has attracted the attention of photographer and conservationist Evrard Wendenbaum. The Scoresby Sund – the world’s largest fjord system – is particularly difficult to access, with its valleys carved out between impressive walls and the ice pack that isolates it for most of the year. But this gigantic glaciers calving hundreds of icebergs and the diversity of its environment, home to exceptional fauna and flora, make it a unique place to study the impacts of global warming.
Last summer, Evrard and his team of adventurers and scientists travelled the length and breadth of this breathtakingly beautiful territory to bear witness to Greenland’s beauty and fragility, and to collect fundamental scientific data in support of its preservation.
It’s been broadcast several times on Arte and UshuaïaTv.

“Makay, le dernier éden” recounts the first in-depth exploration of the Makay massif, a hitherto largely unknown natural labyrinth, in August 2007 by explorer Evrard Wendenbaum, accompanied by Swiss climber Giovanni Quirici, geographer Mohamed Mezaga and eight locals. This expedition was the first to cross the massif from south to north in total autonomy, and lasted 3 weeks.
This incredible adventure was the starting point for the Makay conservation project, still run today by the NGO Naturevolution, and for the creation of the Makay Protected Area.
