Le massif du Makay
Le Makay est un massif de 4.000 km2 dans le sud-ouest de Madagascar. Constitué d’un labyrinthe de canyons forestiers, il abrite un véritable trésor en terme de biodiversité et de peintures rupestres.
La biodiversité du Makay
Madagascar, isolée des continents pendant des millions d’années, a donné naissance une faune et une flore fabuleuse. Le Makay est aujourd’hui un des plus grands sanctuaires de cette incroyable biodiversité menacée d’extinction.
Les menaces
Longtemps préservé des hommes, le Makay fait face aujourd’hui à une forte pression anthropique. L’insécurité alimentaire représente notamment la principale menace pesant sur les forêts du Makay.
Nos projets pour protéger le Makay
Afin de faire face aux menaces pesant sur les écosystèmes du massif, nous déployons un écosystème d’initiatives complémentaires comprenant le développement d’alternatives économiques durables (apiculture, écotourisme), l’amélioration des conditions de vie (accès à l’eau, à l’alimentation, à l’éducation, aux soins et à l’énergie), et la protection des milieux naturels (gardes forestiers, reforestation, sensibilisation, recherche scientifique).

Notre partenaire local
L’association malgache Naturevolution Makay est le partenaire local de Naturevolution pour la préservation du Makay. Elle a vu le jour en 2021 suite à des problèmes internes au sein de l’association Naturevolution Madagascar, autrefois partenaire de Naturevolution. Elle est composée de membres administratifs bénévoles (le bureau) et d’une centaine de membres exécutifs salariés (postes techniques).

Nous avons mené quatre grandes expéditions dans le massif du Makay pour mieux inventorier sa biodiversité et ramener les images nécessaires à sa mise en valeur et à sa protection.
